Who's Eligible?

Qualified applicants for the 2021-2022 academic year must be 

  • High school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Be accepted to an HBCU

  • An essay that describes yourself, and how you plan to make a positive impact on your community through higher education

  • Submit a completed application 

How much is awarded?

Awards are in sum of $500

Application must be submitted  no later than July 1, 2021 at 11:59 pm EST.

What can I use the money for?

Scholarship funding is strictly for educational purposes. Money can be used to purchase school supplies, uniforms, books, and to pay for extracurricular activities such as sports and academic club fees

Once scholarship recipients are chosen he or she will be awarded the grant in the form of a check.

What can I expect next? 

All submissions will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The committee will verify eligibility and after reading each essay, the team will select and notify the top three (3) applicants by mail. If needed, this process will repeat until the committee has five (3) fully verified applicants.

  • What is all included in the price for the HBCU College Tour?
    Expenses will include transportation, sleeping accommodations, t-shirt, backpack, binder of college information and snacks for the bus.
  • Why should I consider attending this HBCU College Tour?
    HBCUs offer a unique educational experience, rich cultural history, and a supportive community. This tour allows you to explore multiple options and find the right fit for your future.
  • What is the duration of the tour?
    The tour will begin on Sunday, April 13, 2025 and will return on Friday, April 18, 2025.
  • How do I sign up for the HBCU College Tour?
    Please click on the apply for the tour link, once the application is complete you will receive a response email which will include next steps.
  • What is the cost of participating in the HBCU College Tour?
    The cost is $800.00. Expenses will include transportation, sleeping accommodations, college tour shirt, name badge, backpack, binder of college information and snacks for the bus. We are also offering this year the opportunity to purchase a prepaid credit card to ensure your child has spending money and you are able to add it to the payment plan if needed.
  • How can I prepare for the HBCU College Tour?
    Start by researching the HBCUs on the tour and their programs. Prepare a list of questions and bring a notebook for taking notes. Additionally, pack essentials like comfortable clothing, walking shoes, and toiletries.
  • Can parents or guardians join the tour?
    Parents are absolutely allowed to follow the tour if so inclined, however we don’t have any space o the bus for additional people.
  • What can I expect to see and do on the tour?
    You'll visit various HBCU campuses, attend information sessions, meet faculty and staff, tour facilities, and sometimes engage in cultural and social activities.
  • Will there be chaperones on the tour?
    We will have 1 chaperone for every four students. Our chaperones have received background checks and gone through training. We take the safety of your children very seriously.
  • How much money should I send with my child?
    Please equip your child with enough money to eat each day and be able to purchase any souvenirs they may want. You also have the option to purchase a prepaid credit card through Y-KNOT Inc.
  • Can I apply to the HBCUs on the tour during the visit?
    In many cases, you can begin or complete your application process during the tour, so make sure to bring relevant documents such as transcripts and test scores.
  • What should I do after the tour to follow up on my HBCU choices?
    After the tour, reflect on your experiences and research, and reach out to admissions offices for any additional questions or support in the application process.
  • Are there age or grade restrictions for tour participants?
    This tour is for grades 9 to 12.
  • How can I stay updated on upcoming HBCU College Tours?
    You can stay informed about upcoming tours by following www.yknotinc.org
  • If my child is unable to go, what is the refund policy?
    There is an $125.00 non-refundable deposit, and all other money will be returned up to 30 days out from the tour. If we are within 30 days there will be no money refunded.
  • How many people to a room?
    There will be two people to a room and of course they will be gender matched. If your child is coming with someone they know and want to be paired together please let us know so that when we are making room assignments we will put them together.
