In this module, you'll be introduced to the purpose and structure of the course, the definition of mentoring, and the vital role mentors play in shaping the lives of young people. You'll also reflect on your motivations and readiness to become a mentor.6
- Module 2: The Mentor-Mentee RelationshipExplore the heart of mentoring—building strong, trusting relationships. This module covers the characteristics of effective mentoring, the phases of relationship development, and how to foster connection, empathy, and mutual respect. You'll also learn about gender considerations and how to navigate boundaries with professionalism.5
- Module 3: Responsibilities & EthicsBeing a mentor comes with important responsibilities. This module outlines your commitments, reporting requirements, and ethical expectations. You'll learn how to handle sensitive situations, maintain confidentiality, and uphold the standards of the Y-KNOT program.5
- Module 4: Mentoring Skills & ToolsGreat mentors are great listeners, communicators, and role models. In this module, you'll develop essential mentoring skills, including how to use the GROW model for goal-setting, understand learning styles, and facilitate productive meetings. You'll also explore the different roles mentors may take on—from coach to connector.6
- Module 5: Supporting Growth & DevelopmentMentoring is about empowering others to grow. This module focuses on how to support your mentee’s personal and academic development through encouragement, goal-setting, and strength-based approaches. You'll also learn how to recognize when a mentoring relationship has run its course and how to end it with care.5
- Module 6: Training & CertificationIn the final module, you'll learn about ongoing training requirements, how your participation is tracked, and how to earn your mentor certification. You'll also gain access to a library of resources to support your continued growth as a mentor.4
